Part Two: The Moon’s Light

Chapter One: Nightmare Awakening

As they all fell asleep at the same time, the five creatures woke up at the same time, and all lifted their heads, clearing their vision. They were in a cave, but it wasn’t Clairvanna and Cecilia who stood over them, it was Frasian and Clortia. The wolves and fox were in their cave in the Underworld.

Joki was the first to lift his head, turning to the two Wolf Warriors in the cave corner. Frasian, with a harsh expression, nudged his sister, who was the much gentler looking of the two. “Clortia.” She didn’t respond right away, so he nudged her again. “Clortia, they’re awake.”

Clortia turned toward the waking creatures, eyes wide, and ran from the cave, calling for the Leaders.

“How did we get here?” Joki asked.

“You didn’t return from your fight with the Moon’s Silver’s leaders,” Frasian explained. “Lightess sent a patrol to bring you back.”

“How did you get past Clairvanna and Cecilia?” LesArbola asked.

“I’ll let the soldiers explain.” Frasian nodded as his sister returned.

“Everyone is in the main cave,” she announced.

“That was fast,” commented Costall, standing up.

“Everyone’s been worried sick about you guys,” Clortia explained. “They’ve all been practically huddling in the main cave, waiting for you to wake up.”

“We were absorbed by Cecilia’s shadows,” Joki tried to explain, before Clortia interrupted.

“We know. Or rather, Lightess figured it out.”

“You’d better follow us,” Frasian suggested.

The seven creatures took their places in the main cave. Clortia was right; it was already crowded. Saphera could see Megan standing beside her mate, Moonlock, and their son, Blauk, near Yatagarak. Leopardshadow and Alex were on his other side. Sapphire stood next to Lightess, who was in her throne, Emerald and Jeanya on their other side.

“Is everyone alright?” Lightess demanded.

“We’re all fine,” Jade answered. “Clortia said you know what happened?”

“Yes.” Lightess nodded. “My mother educated me about this power of shadows, the most powerful a shadow can be. Wallenstein has gifted Cecilia with the power to subdue her enemies with a single attack.”

“How did you get us out of her cave?” Joki repeated the question he’d asked Frasian.

“It was difficult, since Cecilia apparently insisted on watching Saphera the entire time. She wouldn’t leave your side, but Clairvanna wasn’t with her. After the scouts verified what had happened to you, Emerald, Yatagarak, and I devised a plan to bring you back. We sent Wolf Warriors to distract Cecilia, myself in the lead, while a patrol of Bird Brawlers snuck you out. It wasn’t easy- Cecilia almost subjected us to the attack she put on you. We barely made it out with our lives.”

“Megan was in the patrol of Bird Brawlers,” Yatagarak explained.

That was why she was waiting for them, Saphera figured. “Wouldn’t you have wanted to observe Blauk’s training?”

“Blauk has completed his training.”

Saphera glanced at Megan’s son. He looked much stronger than the last time Saphera had seen him. A tall, handsome boy in a skinny black outfit, he was a long eared owl just like his father.

How long were we asleep?

“Megan…” Saphera whispered.
